Recommendations
As the title suggests, I will recommend off-campus restaurants and study places in the greater Orange County area. A little about me: I like food and hate the library. It follows that I am very qualified for this responsibility. Special thanks to Stephanie Talavera for helping with this article.

Side Street Café
Side Street Café has cinnamon rolls you can smell from a mile away. That would be enough for a good review, but alas, some people prefer other breakfast foods. In addition to the cinnamon rolls, Side Street offers a delicious Veggie Eggs Benedict. The eggs are poached to perfection, and my only complaint is that it would be better with bacon. Luckily you can request this option for maximum happiness.

Side Street Café is family owned, clearly, by a family of hipsters or Pinterest users. The menus are handwritten, the art is offbeat, the mugs are mismatched, and all cold beverages will be brought to you in mason jars. On a practical level, there’s outside seating that is dog friendly, free parking, an ATM on-site, and an awesome used movie store in the same complex! Unfortunately, the ATM on-site is not just to be nice; it’s a cash-only place that does not take reservations. Maximum wait times are around 20 minutes, which is honestly not bad for a great brunch in Orange County.

Overall, Side Street Café is absolutely scrumptious and could be one of the best brunch decisions you make all year. Oh yeah, don’t try to find this place online. It’s too cool to have a website, but I’ve listed the important details below.

What: Side Street Café
When: Mon-Sun 7:30 AM – 3:00 PM.
Where: 1799 Newport Blvd, Costa Mesa
Website: None, too hipster.

Corner Bakery Café
For those who like a more conventional approach, Corner Bakery Café is a good alternative. Corner Bakery has multiple locations, including one close to campus, located on Harvard Avenue. At Corner Bakery the tables are large, the outlets are plentiful, and the Wi-Fi is, well, free. Accordingly, it’s quite the study spot. Not to mention the staff is friendly and it’s relatively quiet.

You can use all these delightful amenities for the small price of one meal, a baked good, and/or a drink. The food is decent but has a high sodium content. The biggest drawback is the rush around lunch and dinner times. Pertinent details listed below.

What: Corner Bakery Café
When: M-Sat 7:00 AM– 9:00 PM, Sun 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM
Where: Multiple locations. 17575 Harvard Ave Location is the closest to school
